Baishawan bliss - Day 3

Beautiful Beaches

Day 3 we woke up at 5:30 am to a pleasant surprise. No heat, no piercing sun beating us down. It felt great to be outside without breaking into a frantic sweat. So we took the opportunity to grab a coffee at the nearest 7-11, and hit up a relatively empty beach—only a few people here and there, setting up for the coming crowds. The air was cool and the water refreshing. We took a quick swim before heading in for our last Baishawan morning yoga session.

Our favorite meals are breakfast of course, and Origins always served such simple, yet unique ones. Lots of fruits. A few simple eggs. We especially loved how elegantly all the meals were always presented.

Mountain Temple

We piled into the car and headed up to Dharma Drum Mountain. DDM is an international Buddhist spiritual, cultural, and educational foundation created by the late Chan Master Sheng-yen. The complex is sprawling and beautiful, but due to the heat we headed indoors to bask in AC and enjoy an amazing tour around the main parts of the building, allowing us to dart back in for an AC break whenever it was needed. Lydia had arranged a personal tour guide who was fluent in both English and Chinese and took us to explore the many scenic locations at the temple. We ate with all the other visitors, volunteers, and monks—vegan options of vegetables and rice cooked without onion and garlic (the Buddhist way). After lunch, we participated in a water bowl meditation in which we were tasked with the challenge of walking around the garden holding a wooden bowl filled with water. This was a true mindfulness exercise as one needs to be fully present and walk with ease. On our return to Origin Chef Edward treated us to an afternoon tea set of fresh fruits, vegan dessert and homemade kombucha.

Closing Circle

We ended our day at Origins Wellness Center with a light dessert and closing circle. Using a beautiful set of oracle cards, Lydia led us through a simple, yet insightful discussion on our current states, and expectations for the future. The closing circle we also practised a short loving-kindness meditation to the spread our positive energies we cultivated this weekend back into the world. It was the perfect way to end both our day and our adventure at Origins Wellness Retreat Center.
